Dr. Iyengar’s International Work and Global Impact

From the Flying Eye Hospital to remote villages with limited access to care, Dr. Iyengar has traveled to more than 15 countries to perform complex eyelid surgeries and train local surgeons. His international work reflects a deep commitment to reducing preventable blindness, sharing knowledge, and ensuring patients worldwide receive the same standard of compassionate, expert care he provides at home.

International Awards And Global Recognition

Dr. Iyengar’s Certificate of Appreciation for his work with the ORBIS Flying Eye Hospital in Kumasi, Ghana.

The Pan-American Association of Ophthalmology (PAAO) presented Dr. Iyengar with the prestigious Paul Kayser International Scholar Award to study new techniques in eyelid surgery performed in Buenos Aires, Argentina with Dr. Martin Devoto.

International Meetings

Dr. Iyengar as an invited guest of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists of Thailand to be a speaker at the Asia-Pacific Association of Ophthalmology annual meeting in Bangkok, Thailand.

International Volunteer Work

With a genuine passion for helping patients less fortunate, Dr. Srinivas Iyengar has been recognized by his eye surgeon peers for his volunteer surgery around the globe.

Dr. Iyengar has operated and taught eyelid surgery in over 15 countries. He has served on national committees for global health with the American Academy of Ophthalmology and the American Society of Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery.

After finishing his ophthalmic training, Dr. Iyengar spent one year as one of two American eye surgeons on the world’s only Flying Eye Hospital. He has over a decade of experience working in developing countries with ORBIS International and currently serves as Volunteer Faculty for Oculoplastic Surgery. His eyelid and orbital surgery work in 2019 in Kumasi, Ghana was highlighted on television by 10-News ABC. Brand ambassadors, Daniel Craig and Cindy Crawford, have produced short films on this Flying Eye Hospital project, and their trailers are seen below.

Dr. Iyengar has also worked with other volunteer organizations to provide eyelid surgery for people around the world. He and a fellow oculoplastic surgeon in New York City started Lōkana, a 501c3 non-profit organization to help provide eye care for the indigenous Chenchu communities in southern Andhra Pradesh, India, who are living within India’s largest tiger preserve. The people here have no access to eye care, no running water, and live amidst freely roaming wild tigers.
