How many post-operative visits after my eyelid surgery and when are they?

As a general rule of thumb, we see patients at 1 week, 1 month, and 3 months following upper or lower eyelid blepharoplasty.  Many patients feel they are doing fine at the 1 month visit and will call if any concerns.  Telemedicine is now being used as well when convenient.  Other types of eyelid surgery may require additional or fewer visits.  At the one week appointment, sutures are removed in the office.

There are different types of sutures used in eyelid surgery. Dr. Iyengar can discuss with you which sutures might be the best for your particular type of eyelid surgery and convenience.  There is some debate in the eyelid surgery field as to whether absorbable sutures are as good as the ones that are removed.  We tend to prefer the sutures which are removed at one week for blepharoplasty.  Dr. Iyengar can explain the reasoning as to why we favor this approach.
